Commodore's Welcome
The North West Venturers Yacht Club was founded by a dedicated
group of yachtsmen in 1961 so 2010 marks the 49th year of the club.
2011 being the club’s Half Centenary, we intend to celebrate in
appropriate style next year and you will hear more of our plans as
this year progresses.
As in 1961, the aims and objectives of the club remain the same – to
encourage cruising in sailing boats, to study and apply the
principles of navigation and seamanship and to share those skills
and experiences with our members in a spirit of mutual support and
fellowship whilst also, hopefully, having some fun. We successfully
achieve these aims and objectives by, amongst other things, cruising
in company; undertaking none too serious racing; running various
training courses; organising illuminating talks by members and
others and also just chatting to one another at our club house
socials or whilst on the hard, the beach or at an anchorage bbq or
other ad hoc gathering whilst cruising our local waters or further
afield.
We have strong relationships with neighbouring clubs and their
members and we are always welcomed by them when we sail into their
waters and imbibe in their club houses as, indeed, they are too when
they visit us. In recent years, we have shared some of our weekend
cruises with our neighbouring clubs and that is set to continue to
the benefit of us all.
Our club house on Gallows Point provides excellent facilities
including a well equipped galley, dining and lounging areas and, of
course, showers and wc’s. We have a bar licence but we are, first
and foremost, a sailing club, so the bar is generally only open for
club house socials.
