Winfarthing - Bob and Carol 19/08/2010 00:00:00

Someone recently recommended a local sail maker to me but I cant remember who it was - possibly JKA. We plan an extensive revision to Winfarthings sails and reefing systems this winter and need someone who really knows what they are doing. Can anyone recommend the right people? Who ever told me previously had been very impressed. more>>

Hi everyone, Sarcio is in need of a new log book and we have found that the pre- printed ones are somewhat lacking in some areas. Therefore I have been looking at producing our own version for Sarico. This then got me to thinking and wondering what others use within the club. So I have a number of points for you to ponder on. 1. Do you.. more>>

Bob & Carol, Winfarthing 03/05/2010 14:32:47

Winfarthing is based for the summer in Holyhead this year which means that we have to negotiate one or the other of the above for many passages. We have not been in and out of HH for many years and previously only ever passed the notorious headlands at slack water, calmish conditions. I can read the pilots (scary)and work out out the theory. What I.. more>>

topic Cleaning barnacles

Mike Hollingworth 09/03/2010 21:25:25

I removed the prop and the cutter off Chinook at the weekend to remove the barnacle encrusting. I tried scrapping it off with not much success, but I have just discovered alloy wheel cleaner disolves the encrusting rapidly. This is working really well on the prop cutter which is particularly sharp in places. more>>

Sarico 02/03/2010 18:52:04

We are looking to go to S Ireland this season, and fancy going straight from somewhere like Porth Dinllaen to Kilmore Quay. Any recommendations for what tide/time to leave? I would rather round Carnsore Point in daylight. Assume average boat speed of 4.5 / 5.5 knots. more>>

topic Caernarfon Bar

Jim 02/03/2010 18:45:23

Hi - new to the club and Sailing in the Strait. 1) How can you predict the sea state at the Bar when you set off at PD? Given that one always has to leave with an ebbing tide and more often than not SW winds one would mostly end up with wind over tide conditions at the Bar. However, once one is near Fort Belan there is just no way back. How can .. more>>

So does any body dare recommend a type and amp hour rating for a battery in the following scenario. Hunter Sonata 7, no onboard charging, ie. need to take battery off to re-charge, no requirement for starting an engine. Consumption will be limited to VHF and occasional GPS position checks in passage, and at night appropriate navigation lights. Ah .. more>>

drc 06/12/2009 19:02:54

I'm changing Sarico's stern gland for a drip less type this winter, and whilst the prop shaft is off I will be changing the P bracket bearing. By the look of it I remove a grub screw and then drift the bearing out. However I'm worried about damaging the P bracket itself. Has anyone got any experience they could pass on to me, or an idea for a gi.. more>>
