Someone recently recommended a local sail maker to me but I cant
remember who it was - possibly JKA. We plan an extensive revision to
Winfarthings sails and reefing systems this winter and need someone
who really knows what they are doing. Can anyone recommend the right
people? Who ever told me previously had been very impressed.

Hi has anyone who`s boat was damaged in recent storms / or supposedly hit by another boat, sorted out their insurance claims yet? I have been trying to gather evidence of what went on that night and need other boat owners to confirm extent of damage to their boats. Any help towards settling my claim , [as damage to Sylvia is estimated at over 12k] ..

Hi everyone,
Sarcio is in need of a new log book and we have found that the pre- printed ones are somewhat lacking in some areas. Therefore I have been looking at producing our own version for Sarico. This then got me to thinking and wondering what others use within the club.
So I have a number of points for you to ponder on.
1. Do you..

Hi, do members know the best places for fin keel boats round and about Cardigan Bay? Obviously Aberystwyth and Fishguard are options, just wondering if anyone had experience of other places. Perhaps Milford Haven?

Winfarthing is based for the summer in Holyhead this year which means that we have to negotiate one or the other of the above for many passages. We have not been in and out of HH for many years and previously only ever passed the notorious headlands at slack water, calmish conditions. I can read the pilots (scary)and work out out the theory. What I..

I`m about to start applying 5 coats of Gelshield to the stripped back gelcoat on Charlie.Obviously the keels will be coated but is there any need to fully coat other metal items eg propshaft,through-hull exit points etc? The hull will be finished with a coat of primer then 2 x antifoul.
And any other epoxying tips gratefully received!

I removed the prop and the cutter off Chinook at the weekend to remove the barnacle encrusting. I tried scrapping it off with not much success, but I have just discovered alloy wheel cleaner disolves the encrusting rapidly. This is working really well on the prop cutter which is particularly sharp in places.

Hi Everyone,
Please can you tell me what you eat on your boat? What things do you have? How much food do you carry? Do you carry enough Gravy to sink the navy? In your quarter masters stores. Sorry couldn’t resist that.. Anyway swiftly moving on.
Can you help?

We are looking to go to S Ireland this season, and fancy going straight from somewhere like Porth Dinllaen to Kilmore Quay. Any recommendations for what tide/time to leave? I would rather round Carnsore Point in daylight. Assume average boat speed of 4.5 / 5.5 knots.

Hi - new to the club and Sailing in the Strait.
1) How can you predict the sea state at the Bar when you set off at PD? Given that one always has to leave with an ebbing tide and more often than not SW winds one would mostly end up with wind over tide conditions at the Bar. However, once one is near Fort Belan there is just no way back. How can ..

So does any body dare recommend a type and amp hour rating for a battery in the following scenario.
Hunter Sonata 7, no onboard charging, ie. need to take battery off to re-charge, no requirement for starting an engine. Consumption will be limited to VHF and occasional GPS position checks in passage, and at night appropriate navigation lights. Ah ..

I'm changing Sarico's stern gland for a drip less type this winter, and whilst the prop shaft is off I will be changing the P bracket bearing. By the look of it I remove a grub screw and then drift the bearing out. However I'm worried about damaging the P bracket itself. Has anyone got any experience they could pass on to me, or an idea for a gi..
